Ben and Hertha Tweidt

                        Ben, son of Maria (Urdahl) and Martin Tweidt, was born on May 25, 1920 in Plaza, North Dakota and his wife Hertha (Molkenthin), daughter of Anna (Grundmann) and Gustav Molkenthin, was born on January 6, 1924 in Humbolt, Saskatchewan.

                        Both Ben’s parents were born in Stavanger , Norway . They met in Norway and then Martin immigrated to the States. Maria emigrated a year later and the two were married shortly after. In 1924, they moved to a farm east of Hendon with their family. Ben has five brothers and two sisters: Della, Carl, Mabel, Alfred, Melvin, Selmer, and Donald.

                        Both Hertha’s parents were born in Germany . They both immigrated to Canada in 1911, although they had not yet met. They were married in Canada and farmed at Middle Lake near Humbolt. Hertha has five sisters: Dora, Erna, Esther, Lucille, and Alice.

                        Ben and Hertha met in Middle Lake while Ben was working at the Post Office there. In 1941, Ben joined the Navy. There he took a course to become a Machinist. Ben and Hertha dated by Correspondence throughout the war and were engaged while Ben was on a leave of absence. When Ben got his discharge in 1945 he came home to finally marry Hertha. They were married in June of 1946 and began their happily married life on a farm near Hendon.

                        The couple has three children. Donna married Robert McEwen and has two children: Greg and Landice. Lowell married Pam (Cassidy) and has one child: Stefan. Kathlyn married Peter Mercier and has two children: Ryan and Kim. Ben and Hertha have two great grandchildren.

                        Both Ben and Hertha are members of the Lutheran church and the Hendon Seniors club. Ben is also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion. Ben enjoys playing pool and shuffle board while Hertha enjoys gardening and canning preserves. Both of them enjoy bowling as well as spending time visiting with friends and family.

                        The couple now resides in a house in Wadena after moving into town in 2005. They sold their farm to a younger couple and are happy to see it being kept up and given new life.
