DAVE JESMER AND Joyce Springer

Carl David Jesmer, also known as Dave, was born on the 16th of July, 1935 here in Wadena. There were five brothers and four sisters in his family. His father, Carl Jesmer, was born in Michigan , U.S.A. He came to Canada where he married Dave’s mother, Jessie Johnson, who was also born in Wadena. Together they farmed and raised their family.

For the past six years Dave has been courting Joyce Janet Springer, who was born in Lloydminster on August 7, 1942. There were three sisters and five brothers. Her father’s name was Jim Forrester, whose family was originally from Scotland . He worked in garbage disposal. Her mother was Alice Thomas, and she worked in a restaurant.

Dave has a daughter, and now has two grandchildren. Joyce also has a daughter and a son, and has a granddaughter. Dave is a farmer, but has retired his land and focuses on his cattle. Joyce helps with the farm, and also helps her daughter with babysitting/daycare. Dave now lives in town, and Joyce also has a place here in Wadena.

Dave enjoys learning about his past, in which he discovered some interesting family history. His family came over from France in the 1740’s and settled in Eastern Canada . The family name had originally been Jasmine but had become Jesmer after they had immigrated. His grandfather was a salesman of Great Dort cars. He was friends with Sir Wilfred Laurier (Prime Minister of Canada, 1896-1911), and was very good at campaigning for him because he spoke several different languages. In 1904 his family moved west of Wadena.

Dave enjoyed curling when he was still able to play, and Joyce enjoys taking care of the children with her daughter. Dave is a helpful and enthusiastic board member of the Wadena and District Museum . It is always a pleasure to see them and we hope they continue to enjoy the time they spend together. Good luck to you both!
