Duncan
& Doras McDonald
Duncan, son of
Lena
(Atkinson) and Fraser McDonald, was born on March 22, 1927 and his wife Doras
(Erickson), daughter of Daisy (Lane) and Charles Erickson, was born on November
25, 1931. Both were born in Wadena.
Fraser McDonald was born in
Ontario
and moved to a homestead south west of Paswegin in 1909. He taught school in
this area for many years. Lena (Atkinson) was born in
England
and immigrated to the States in 1906 with her five sisters and her brother.
Duncan
has three brothers: Douglas, Charlie, and Fred.
Charles Erickson was born in the States and moved
to a homestead fifteen miles from Wadena in the early 1900’s. Daisy (Lane) was
born in the Isles of White,
England
. Her and her family moved into Wadena when she was only ten years old. Doras
has five siblings: Charlie, Ernest, Alvin, Agnes, and Evelyn. She also has two
stepbrothers from her mother’s first marriage which ended in tragedy: Robert
and Harold.
Doras has one son, Albert, from her first marriage.
He has married Anita (Stradeski) and blessed his mother with a grandchild, Noel.
Doras has just welcomed a great granddaughter to the world named Brownwyn.
Duncan
has three stepchildren from his previous marriage: Carol, Arryl, and
Byrn. He has also been blessed with three grandchildren.
Both Duncan and Doras volunteer with the elderly,
helping them get to appointments and from place to place as well as visiting
with them.
Duncan
is involved in the Wadena Van Corp. and was once a wheat pool delegate. He’s
also part of the Wadena Curling club and spends a lot of his time playing cards,
watching baseball, and of course, curling. Doras is part of the Farmer’s
Market, the hospital Auxiliary, the Wadena and
Hendon
Drop-in
Centers
, as well as many other clubs. She enjoys knitting and baking as well as playing
cards with her husband and friends.
The couple currently lives in Wadena and is a big
part of Wadena’s social circle.
