Ken & Evelyn Jones

Kenneth Alfred Jones was born out on the farm at Raymore on August 29, 1927, since there was no hospital at that time. He had two siblings, a sister and a brother. His father, Alfred Jones, and his mother, Hilda Fletcher, were born in England. They came to Canada when they were young, Alfred in 1905 and Hilda around 1924. They both settled in Raymore where they started a farm and a family. Ken helped at the farm until he was old enough to start a family of his own. He married Evelyn Christina Lindbom on July 13, 1963.

Evelyn was also born on the farm, in Midale where her family lived, on the 10th of June, 1929. She grew up with two sisters. Her father’s name was Martin Lindbom. He was born in the United States. His parents came from Sweden; they changed their name from Hendrix to Lindbom when they immigrated. Evelyn’s mother, Signe Nystrom, was born in Sweden, and came over in the 1920’s. They settled near Midale and worked as farmers. Signe also worked as a cook in a hospital after her husband passed away.

Ken and Evelyn started their own farm three and a half miles south of Wadena. Ken was also a mechanic, and Evelyn was a school teacher, specializing in math. They have one daughter, one son, and four grandchildren. They unfortunately do not get to see them very often because they all live so far away. Ken and Evelyn are semi-retired as of 2001. They have rented out most of their land, but they still farm one quarter, and they have moved into town.

They are also very involved with the community. They are devoted members and helpers at their church. They are very dependable members of the Wadena and District Museum board and have helped out at the Museum countless times. Ken enjoys repairing and maintaining antique machinery and automobiles. Evelyn likes to read, and feels cooking is okay, "since it needs to be done anyways." Out of a lifetime of memories, a special one was when they went to England on a holiday. Such a holiday was well deserved of this fine couple.
