Peter & Agnes Malekoff

Peter P. Malekoff was born on October 18, 1922, on the family farm at Kylemore, to Peter and Lukeria Malekoff.  His wife, Agnes (Braaten) was born on December 15, 1930 in a Ford car, while on the way to the Wadena Hospital .

His father, Peter Steven, was born in Karst , Russia , which is close to the Turkish border, and his mother, Lukeria Soukeroff was born in Russia .  They immigrated with their parents to Canada in 1899, landing in Halifax , and then making the long journey to Blaine Lake .  Peter and Lukeria then moved to the Kylemore district, where they took up farming.  They had four children, three girls and one boy.

Agnes father, Theodore Braaten was born in Norway , and immigrated to South Dakota , before coming to live at Kuroki in 1905.  Her mother, Mary Bazylinski was born in the Ukraine , and immigrated with her mother in 1921. Peter S. and Mary had four girls and five boys.

Peter P. and Agnes were married in August 1953.  They farmed at Kylemore, and were blessed with four children, two girls and two boys.

In 1971, Agnes began working at the Wadena Hospital , where she worked for nineteen and a half years as Housekeeping Supervisor, until she retired in 1991.  Peter continued to farm up until he retired in 1998, but he still likes to get out in the field when ever the opportunity arises.  He fondly remembers the satisfaction of getting a good crop off the field and in the bin, after all the hard work it took to get it there.  Life was certainly busy for them, but they enjoyed their work, and the birth of their children, their growing up and the graduations,  marriages, and seeing their children all get good jobs are all favorite memories.  The birth of their first grand child was especially exciting for them. They now have seven grand children and two great grand children of which they are very proud.

Peter and Agnes enjoy playing cards, especially canasta, with friends, and while Peter enjoys gardening and picking berries, Agnes prefers crocheting, knitting, and quilting for the family.  They both enjoy visiting with their family and friends.  They are going to be moving to Wadena in the fall.
