Peter Popoff

Peter Popoff was born on April 8, 1924 in Kamsack Sask. He moved to a farm west of Wadena in April 1934 with his father Kuzma Popoff, his sister Mary and his brother John. He took all his schooling in the old red brick school and, after graduating, purchased his own farm west of Wadena.

Peter married Ruth Francis, who was born and raised on a farm in the Invermay District, in 1949. The couple lived together on the farm for six years before moving into town in 1955. Peter has two children, Judi and Sherlyn. Judi married Blaine McMartin and has three children, Trenton , Tania, and Teagan. Sherlyn married Doug Ward and has two children, Leighton and Dane.

Peter started driving bus for the Wadena School Unit in 1960. Many will remember his bombardier which not only transported children to and from school in the winter months but also brought supplies and medical help to the snowed in homesteads along his route. Eventually roads were improved and there was no longer a need for his bombardier. Peter drove the school bus for 27 years before retiring in 1987.
