The
museum now boasts a doctor’s office featuring some of the beginnings of
healthcare in the region and an RCMP barracks/jailhouse intended to remind
people and teach our youngsters of the important role the police played in the
early days. Museum staff are also awaiting the completion of an old general
store which will display many of the daily items that people used in days long
past.
This
year weekly columns will be featured in our local paper. Watch upcoming issues
for “Honoring a senior” – a brief
introduction to some of our local seniors honoring their contribution to the
community and area, past and present. Also being featured in the weeks to come
is, “Birds of the Wetlands” a weekly column intended to give a glimpse of
the diversity of the birds we often take for granted as part of the background
of our daily lives. Indirectly the column will also promote the many interesting
aspects of the Wadena Wetlands, Wadena’s best kept secret.
Bringing
these new opportunities are this year’s museum and nature centre staff: Nancy
Evans, Baron Zarowny, Lacey-Anne Sanderson and Ian Kulyk.
Nancy Evans has accepted
the position of curator and has already spent many hours planning and preparing
for an exciting season. Nancy and her husband Malcolm moved to Wadena in 2003
when they purchased a farm west of Wadena. They have two children, Nathan and
Tara.
This
is Baron Zarowny’s second season as a member of the museum staff. Raised in
Paswegin, Baron took all of his school in Wadena, graduating in 2002. He is
