Sunderland School

Education has always been a prime concern for a community, ours being no exception. Sunderland school was opened in 1907 and was located East of Wadena. Approximately 400 students attended during the time that it served as a rural classroom. In 1959 it was moved to Wadena where it continued as a classroom for band instruction. In 1987 it became the initial Wadena & District Museum building.

Among other things, this school contains a homemade teacher's desk, a copy of the school register, a gestetner, a hectograph, Moyer's water fountain, student desks, lunch pails, and many books and utensils used for study.
