Located in the original Wadena train station, the museum is a
must see for any visitor. Open from May to September, the friendly staff will
answer any questions you may have about our cultural and natural heritage. On
site you’ll find antique machinery, the Brice farmstead (dating back to 1914), a
pioneer one room school house, CNR caboose and jigger, nature and wildlife
displays, and more! You can learn more about the museum and Wadena’s heritage at

The
best place to access the Quill Lakes and view wildlife is at the
Wadena
Wildlife Wetlands. Just 3km's south on Highway 35 from the Town of Wadena
you’ll discover over 5 miles of trails, along with marsh boardwalks, a canoe
launch, and wildlife viewing towers. Picnic and washroom facilities and
informational signage are located at the main observation tower near the
entrance. Trails include the "Plover's Path" which travels along the lake shore,
"Blackbird Alley" which travels through the marsh, and "Wildflower Way" which
features native prairie plants. The area is open, free of charge to the public,

Wadena Mural Images
Inspired by a dream of local artist Rose Palechka, and brought to reality by the
incredible talent of resident artists, the murals in Wadena are a must see!
Located throughout the community and concentrated on Main street, the over one
dozen murals feature Wadena’s cultural history, recreation activities, farming
practices, and area wildlife.
A free walking
tour brochure features many of their works around the downtown area. Their
donation of hundreds of hours of painting has been a wonderful addition to our
community!
With new grass greens, the 9 hole, beautifully treed Wadena Golf Course is a
great place to relax and spend the afternoon. The course is located on the East
Side of Wadena along 6th Street NE and you’ll find green fees are very
reasonable at approximately $5/round. If need a little practice before heading
out be sure and visit the Mallard Driving Range located next to the Lion’s
Sports Grounds on the west side of town. Balls can be picked up at many of the
convenience stores in town or stop by Mallard Diversified Services, conveniently
located next to the range.

Curling Club & Rec Center Park

The Rinks in Wadena, a popular spectator gathering occurs at both.
Wadena is very proud of their modern curling facility. The rink has hosted many
widely publicized events including the Scott Tournament of Hearts, SHSAA Mixed
Curling, and Junior Men’s Curling. Stop by the rink and catch some of the great
curling action. The Wadena Rec. Centre Park consists of the local Rec. Centre,
Wadena Aquatic Centre and Wadena Campground. The Rec. Centre houses the Wadena
Minor Sports Association and Wadena Skating Club during the winter months and is
available for various functions during the summer months including the annual
Trade Fair.
The Wadena Aquatic Centre opens during the Victoria Day Long Weekend in May
and closes during the Labour Day Long Weekend in September. Swimming Lessons and
Public Swimming are the main focuses of this facility, which is also available
to rent for special occasions.
The Wadena Campground is located at the site of Wadena's old swimming pool at
the east side of the park. The campground boosts 6 electrical sites as well as
extensive area for tents. The old Pool House is open for the use of washrooms
and showers. Sites are available on a first come, first serve basis.
When in Wadena be sure to stop by Canada’s most trusted conservation
organization area headquarters. The Ducks Unlimited Building on 1st ST, NE in
Wadena. Here you can learn all about North America’s waterfowl and wetlands.
There’s a large wetland interpretive display featuring local wildlife, an 18-ft.
high map of the Quill Lakes, free posters for the kids, and more. The friendly
staff will gladly assist you in learning more about the conservation programs
they deliver to area farmers and knowledgeable biologists can answer all your
wildlife questions. Staff can also provide directions to developed DU wildlife

Stars
Although a long way from "Tinsel Town", Wadena continues to be the birthplace of
many talented people. Most notable has been Pamela Wallin, a celebrated and
influential news anchor. Wallin produced and anchored her own successful news
program, "Pamela Wallin Live", which featured in depth interviews with stars and
world-renowned individuals. Wadena recently honored Pam by renaming Highway 5,
which runs through town, after her. She frequently visits friends and family in
Wadena, co-owns the Special Effects Spa on Main street, and can be seen around
town supporting many community events. Her recent Book "Since You Asked"
features many stories about growing up in Wadena.
Other female stars include Jeanette Loff a, movie star discovered by Cecile B.
DeMille, and Betty Compton, a Ziegfield girl who was featured in a popular film
Beau James, a story about New York Mayor Jimmie Walker. Male celebrities include
Larry Hoodekoff, who starred in the BBC television series Lucky Silver, and
radio broadcasters Bob Washington (Wash), Borys Kozak, Earl LePage, Andy
Malowanchuk, Al Frederickson, Barry Bowman, Brian Byman, , Bob Prescesky, and
Art Wallman. Art a successful musician, and singer is best known for his radio
show, Art Wallman Country and Tractor Line. A display featuring all of these
celebrities is located at the Wadena Museum.
A
recent addition to the list of talented musicians, is Herbert Maassen, who has
preformed professionally throughout Europe and Western Canada, and has chosen
Wadena as his new home. Known far and wide as "Herbert
the Entertainer", he has over 150 songs recorded on more than 18 albums.
The peace and quiet and boundless inspiration made Wadena an obvious choice.
He has already produced one CD specifically inspired by the town, and included
the local school children as background singers.
A few of the many bison/buffalo you will find at Clair Side Bison. Looking for
where the buffalo roam? Then head out to the nearby town of Clair and see them
roam the native prairie for yourself. The home of "Mr. Big", this buffalo ranch,
which specializes in meat, hides, heads and leather products, is run by local
ranchers Jack and Marie Evans. Tourists are welcome or you can view the buffalo
in their natural habitat alongside the gravel road when traveling Ducks Unlimited
Self-Guided Nature Watch route. Tour groups visiting the ranch are
asked to please phone ahead if possible.
Just outside Wadena are a number of other attractions you won’t want to miss.
These include the Quill Lakes Interpretive Center in Wynyard, Foam Lake Heritage
Marsh near the town of Foam Lake, and Fishing Lake Beach.
